List Of Burial Grounds In Liverpool

Some of the churches, churchyards and headstones are long since gone. so I have compiled a list of all Municipal Cemeteries, Churchyards and Burial Grounds within the Liverpool area where burials have taken place. So if you are unsuccessful in locating the burial of an individual in Toxteth Park Cemetery, try an alternative churchyard or cemetery as they may be interred there.

Gibson & Gardner Transcription List
By law, as each graveyard or cemetery were closed and the headstones, etc, removed they were obliged to transcribe all inscriptions on each relevant memorial. These are lists of Inscriptions, Epitaphs & Memorials transcribe by James Turner & David Ensign Gardner in the 1800's and 1930's. A brief outline on each person and all relative Liverpool library references numbers are given.

Plans of Toxteth Park Cemetery

The Cemetery is divided into 57 different sections, 38 Consecrated or C of E, (coloured Yellow) and 19 Un-Consecrated or General Section (coloured Blue,) The plan on the left is coloured yellow for Consecrated, and blue for Un-Consecrated sections. The colours are my own way of identifying each section. The plan on the right was the original drawn up by Liverpool City council.

Grave Maps

If an individual is found within the main indexes, the Section and Grave Number will be shown. The Section and Grave Number can then be located within the cemetery by on the use of "Grave Maps". The cemetery is divided into two sections, Consecrated and Un-Consecrated are coloured yellow and blue respectively.

Notable People

All aspects of Liverpool life have found their resting place in Toxteth Park Cemetery. Rich and poor, to scientists, chemists and doctors, victims of the Liverpool Blitz in WWII, (the most heavily bombed city out side of London) and the most famous maritime disaster of all time, Titanic. Some notable people are interred here.
